I have over 30 years of trial experience leading hundreds of bench trials (judge only) and jury trials with 6- and 12-person juries. I provide legal advice and representation for virtually every kind of charge from petty misdemeanors to serious felonies at all stages of criminal proceedings, such as grand jury proceedings and preliminary hearings, initial appearance, bond arraignments, plea negotiations, sentencing, and all other criminal court procedures and appearances.
Civil trial practice includes two 12-person jury trials, one as Plaintiff counsel and one as Defendant counsel; prevailed on both.
I spent seven years as Guardian ad Litem (GAL) and Youth Attorney for the State of New Mexico Eighth Judicial District Court representing Taos County.
Prior leadership includes Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Panel Attorney for the United States District Court, District of New Mexico, and 15 years as a Public Defender for the State of New Mexico encompassing representation for a wide range of serious felonies.
Attended numerous respected Trial Practice Institutes, each 10 days or more in duration, and a 2.5 day NITA Trial Skills Training specific to Abuse and Neglect Proceedings.
My strengths include the ability to work well under pressure with others as demonstrated by having tried a multitude of serious felony cases with at least 30 different attorneys.
A portion of my practice also includes the area of juvenile and Guardian ad Litem representation, where I strive to find solutions that are in the best interests of the children or teens involved.
My legal services also encompass litigation consulting, jury consulting, trial preparation for other lawyers and law firms, and cannabis business consulting.
Native to Northern Minnesota on the White Earth Indian Reservation. My dad's family were enrolled members of the White Earth Ojibwe, and I am an enrolled member of my mother's tribe, Cheyenne River Sioux, Eagle Butte, South Dakota. For most of my adult life, I have lived in New Mexico. I have had the pleasure of representing folks in all parts of this beautiful State.
